Qlikview Dropdown Select Column in Table Box

Sometimes in Qlikview application design, I find there are too many List Boxes cluttering up a given page.  There are many different techniques to reduce the number of List Boxes being displayed, and this post demonstrates one of these techniques.  This particular example involves setting up a Qlikview Dropdown Select Column in a Table Box object.  It is a simple setting within the properties of the Table Box object, and gives the user another way to filter information without the need for a dedicated List Box or Multi Box object.

Setup – Qlikview Dropdown Select Column in Table Box

Let’s say you have the following Table Box

There are several fields that work well for creating a “Dropdown Select” as the Column header:  Week / Position / NFLTeam / HomeAway

You can set these column as Dropdowns instead of adding four List Box objects, allowing you to save space on your page while giving users the ability to filter and drill down further into the data.

In the properties of the Table Box, go into the “Presentation” tab.  Here you will notice a check box called “Dropdown Select”

For each of the fields mentioned above ( Week / Position / NFLTeam / HomeAway ), check this box.  Save the updated property settings.

Now, when you look at your Table Box object, you will see each column has the Dropdown Select option enabled.

This allows the user to filter each respective column to unique value(s) for a given field.

For example, if you click on the dropdown option for the “Position” column, then Select “RB”

The Table Box will filter to only those records with Position value equal to “RB”

And that’s all there is to it!  A simple and effective way to allow interactive filtering, without filling up your Qlikview page with List Boxes or other filtering objects.  Again, this is one of many ways you can inject interactive filtering into your Qlikview application.
